The Hub of our home

The kitchen is the hub of our home. It is where most of the family activities inside the home take place, where we entertain close friends and family members. It is where most of the action takes place.

The Hub of our Home

We've equipped our kitchen with 2 ovens, 3 if you count the microwave oven :). Gone are the problems we had of trying to schedule which ones to cook first because there was only one oven to cook in. This Christmas, while the turkey will be cooking, I can take my merry time whipping up my dessert 'cause I can have my oven anytime.

And speaking of ovens, I was so happy the holes below the wall ovens were finally replaced with 2 sets of drawers. After 5 months, the ugly holes are gone. Phew! One item being crossed out in the to-do list.

It goes without saying that we don't want anyone going hungry or thirsty. Not in our kitchen. Most importantly, household members can pretty much take comfort in the fact that they are free to be themselves, learn things, make mistakes, and have fun. Well, it’s pretty much how we run the entire household.

The kitchen is probably the part of the home that we’ve put most of the things that we really want. I wanted a white kitchen, MDH was kind enough to consent to this.

I think overall, a white kitchen will never go dated. And it looks divine whatever fruit you put on the island. The colours pop, don't you think?

And yes, this time we have a bigger island compared to the previous home. It's 4 ft by 5.5 ft. I wanted a different wood colour for the island but decided to go with white (chalk white, to be specific) as our furniture pieces are dark. And so is the floor.

Overall, I like the contrast.

I picked most of the fixtures - Moen faucets, Kindred sinks. The faucets were all installed by MDH. No leaks so far. Yay to that!

And in case you  want to know, the countertops are Kashmir White granite and the backsplash is honed Carrara marble in mosaic rectangular strips.

  1. You have a beautiful kitchen. We share the same taste - I have white shaker cabinets, marble backsplash and kashmir white counters too :)

  2. Hi RR,
I looked at your kitchen and it's amazing how similar our finishes are in the kitchen. Wish I have your pendant light though :). Beautiful!
Thanks for the visit and for taking the time to comment.

  3. Your kitchen is gorgeous! I am building a home with the same builder I believe. Were your cabinets an upgrade? Did you get your granite and backsplash tiles from the builder as well?

  4. Hi Gabrielle,
Thank you for the kind comment.
We didn't have to upgrade the cabs as they were standard for the model we picked. We had the granite and backsplash installed after. We got the granite from Granite Shop and the tiles from Westboro. It took several trips to the suppliers' shops before we finally found the ones we liked. There weren't that many choices if we'd do it thru the builder thus the decision to do it after possession. But the big thing was the big savings. We also got our bathroom quartz countertops from Granite Shop. Again, way cheaper.

  5. What a gorgeous house! Is it a Richcraft home? are your kitchen cabinets thermofoil?

  6. Thank you too, Lucy.
Am not sure if they're thermofoitl. I have to look it up or will give builder a call. MDH says it's not.

  8. Love love love your home. Could you give a little more information on the the granite & tile installation process? Did you have the builder install the "standards" and then replace them with the granite and tile of your choice? Or had you ordered everything before you took possession so it could be installed immediately upon closing? My husband and I hadn't even thought to look at sources outside the builder for supply of our granite and tile. Is there anything else you would recommend out-sourcing? Sinks? Faucets?

  9. Hi Sarah Elisabeth,
Sorry for the late reply. Most of our upgrades were structural. We opted to source out all the countertops, sinks, and faucets mostly because the ones I liked were not available if we order them thru the builder. And way cheaper too. We took possession of the house one month before we moved in so we had plenty of time to ask the granite supplier to come in, measure, and install. We removed the countertops that the builder installed. It was pretty easy to do.

I picked/ordered the materials (including sinks, faucets) months ahead to ensure that they were available right after possession.

    Hope this helps.

    Hope this
